Process

We are proud to announce that in its first year the I&I Foundation decided to place micro-commissions for new works by five composers. You can follow the emergence of their pieces via our social media channels over the coming months.

From 2021 onwards, the Foundation’s catalogue will be extended by another 15-20 exciting new contemporary works every year. Moreover, the I&I Foundation intends to act as a kick-starter for larger works in the future.

If you are a concert promoter or festival, an orchestra, an ensemble or a soloist, we invite you to familiarize yourself with the works commissioned by the I&I Foundation. We would be delighted if you helped to have them premiered.

If you are a potential donor, you are very welcome to become a vital force driving the I&I Foundation towards its goal of supporting up-and-coming composers by getting their works commissioned and performed.

Selection of candidates

Continuity

The I&I Foundation guarantees the continuity of contemporary music through micro-commissioning. The commissions are awarded quickly and uncomplicatedly.

Commissioning & Fees

Compared with composers’ competitions, this process is not anonymous. Composers may write a piece ranging from solo instrument to a small ensemble with a free choice of artistic mediums. Commissions and compensations are distributed in accordance with the Foundation’s purpose.

Diversity & inclusion

We are dedicated to embracing the diversity in the composers’ community and strive to promote equality of race, gender, and styles in our selection process. The choice for a specific composer is made according to a variety of preset parameters. This assures clear objectivity in the evaluation process.

Recommendation process

The Co-Artistic Directors will personally contact the selected composers offer the commission and fee.

Successful candidates

The confirmed candidates are officially included in the I&I Foundation programme. The announcements of successful candidates will take place on the I&I Foundation website as well as through social media outlets.

The offer

Following the contractual signing, the successful candidates will be transferred their micro-commissioning fee immediately. Concert promoters and festivals interested in micro-commissions may reach out to the I&I Foundation. The Foundation will be happy to help facilitate discussions about premiere performances.

Who makes the commissioning and what are our goals?
