Our Passion

The I&I Foundation supports the arts and in particular contemporary music by commissioning new works from talented up-and-coming composers.

The I&I Foundation was launched on the 12th of October 2020. Download the I&I  mission statement by clicking the button below.

Time for A Change

Through a series of micro-commissions the I&I Foundation creates a rare chance for composers to dedicate themselves to writing music over an extended period of time while their maintenance costs are provided for by the fees paid directly upon placing the order.

Testimonials

I believe that as artists it is our duty to commission new works. I have done this many times and was rewarded with wonderful results. It is vital to continually ask composers to write new music, especially since the true value of such works is sometimes not recognized until much later. There are currently so many composers that have a lot to offer and I see it as a great investment to give them a chance to write for us. I whole-heartedly support this remarkable project.

Maxim VengerovViolinist, conductor and teacher

Over the course of my career, I have programmed repertoire very much based on artists and in my repertoire developments I try to put thought to which pieces would work best with which artists. I hold many composers, both young and established in very high esteem and when I commission a new work, there are a great number of artistic reasons behind the decision to place this work at the Verbier Festival. The I&I Foundation has a very interesting and cutting edge vision simply because it has gone straight to the point of keeping that creative process flowing. It also includes the youth factor which is very, very important to me. To have a platform which enables the best young talents to compose and in turn, giving my colleagues and I an unbiased place to discover who are the up and coming composers and to have at our finger tips un-premiered works in the I&I Foundation bank, is invaluable in my opinion. I look forward to supporting the them for many years to come.

Martin T:son EngstroemFounder and Executive Director, Verbier Festival

Art is our invention.
It is our way of trying to reflect, to understand the world we are living in.
As all art, music is made by human beings.
Composers and musicians.
Both depend on each other.
To create a foundation which enables simple contacts and exchanges between them is a wonderful idea.
Now, more than ever, the essential and unique project of the I&I Foundation is a necessary response to today’s needs.
A response given by two wonderful musicians, two human beings.
